Miss Dade City's Kumquat Festival has the "IT" when it comes to Life, School, Passions and Pageants. The 2009 Miss
Dade City's Kumquat Festival was full of Pirates and Pizzazz, Andrea Apple exemplified the right stuff and walked away
with the title.
This 22 year old who is in the fourth year of medical school as a OMSIV student at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic
Medicine Bradenton is at the top of her game academically and socially. She is a graduate of Saint Petersburg College-
Pre Med in 2006 and earned her Bachelors of Science in Mathematics and a minor in Psychology from Eckerd College
in May of 2005. She was a home schooled student who earned her AA Degree before obtaining her High School
Diploma in 2002. Passion for volunteering and education doesn't stop with Andrea her mother, Neoka is an
accomplished educator holding several degrees in nursing, education and counseling. Neoka is a doctoral candidate
for the Ph.D program in leadership and Higher Education. She was a head nurse at Bayfront Medical Center and is
currently an adjunct instructor at St. Petersburg College. Neoka is also passionate about volunteering and serves on
several Home School boards as well as advisor for the Medical Club at SPC. Her father Dennis holds a Masters in
Special Education, and a Bachelors in Spanish. He was an Army Linguist in the National Security Agency. He is a
school psychologist as well as an adjunct faculty at St. Petersburg College. He also has a private practice offering
psychological services to young adults.
As Miss Dade City's Kumquat Festival Andrea earned the right to compete at the Miss Florida America Pageant held in
July in St. Petersburg. As well as many other awards, prizes and $750 in cash scholarships.
Andrea wowed the judges at this years Kumquat Festival Pageant with her
clogging routine to the music of Drumline, and has an extensive background in
clogging and performing. She has traveled to as far as Costa Rica, Canada and
twice to Brazil to perform at the International Folk Festivals. She has also
performed in Branson, MO at Silver Dollar City, Disney in Orlando, the Stomping
Ground at Maggie Valley and DollyWood in Tennessee.
She is also an accomplished academic by ranking 5th in her class at LECOM
since July 2008 with a 3.95 average GPA. She was nominated for the AOA
Presidential Memorial Leadership Award in 2009 as well as the Welch Scholar
Grant; the Russell C. McCaughan, DO, Education Scholarship; the LECOM
Academic Excellence Scholarship with a total of $8500 in three years, and is
ranked 3rd in Anatomy at LECOM. Prior to entering LECOM Andrea was a St. Pete
College Honors student where she earned the William R. Rice Mathematics
Award, and upon graduating from Eckerd College with High Honors, she was
awarded the Eckerd College Distinguished Scholars Presidential Award, Bright
Futures Academic Scholar both a full scholarship.

representing my school LECOM Bradenton and
promoting healthy living, my platform. As a fourth year
medical student, I am able to share my platform with
others on almost a daily basis. I enjoy patient education
and encouraging both patients and the medical staff to
get active, eat right, and be healthy.
Aside from her busy scholastic schedule
Andrea is also an avid volunteer in her
community and around the state of Florida.
Andrea recently participated in the All
Children's Telethon with sister Teen Queen
Amanda Morris and other local title
holders. She is the LECOM Student
ambassador and volunteers her time with
Re-Habitat for Humanity. She was a
volunteer for National Pancake Day for
Children's Miracle Network and speaks at
various medical conferences representing
her school. Miss Dade City's Kumquat
Festival is highly regarded in her
Leadership roles as well. She is the
Chairperson of Pinellas County Home
School Alumni Assoc.; has organized relief
efforts for victims of natural disasters
through her Family's Organization, "Kids
Helping Kids," including helping victims of
Hurricane Katrina. She is the Graduation
assistant for Pinellas Parent Educators
Assoc and FPEA; and a Camp Joy Mentor
for homeless children.



Andrea is very passionate about her Platform FIT: Helping to Combat the Obesity
Epidemic. She has created an information sheet for the Health Department to
educate others about obesity, since 2006 she has been a member of the
American Obesity Association and has started a mentoring program for youth
that focuses on self-image and healthy lifestyles. She has become very involved
in the medical community through her platform and she feels that with her
chosen career path as a D.O. of Osteopathic Medicine she can bring her platform
of healthy living to a different level. She is a member of the Student Osteopathic
Medical Association, the Florida Osteopathic Medical Association, as well as the
Emergency Medical Club and the Undergraduate American Academy of
Osteopathy and various other organizations.
Keeping busy is what motivates Andrea to become a more well rounded
individual and encourage others to reach their own potential. In her spare
time Andrea participates in mission trips, has volunteered for the Library
of Congress' Veterans History Project and received recognition from
President Bush. She is the youngest member of the "Grandmother
Rockettes" and brings her knowledge of healthy living to its members.
She enjoys cross-stitching, writing poetry, is a member of Nights Shooting
and has qualified for the Jr. Olympics for Clogging. She is also a nationally
ranked synchronized swimmer and is a national champion clogger.

Andrea volunteering her time at the Kumquat Booth at the
Pasco County Fair in February.
Andrea and her Sunshine Princess Brittany Sanborn. The Sunshine
Princess program is a mentoring program set forth by the Miss Florida
Scholarship Program to encourage titleholders to mentor young women
and encourage them in their everyday activities.
Andrea and her sister Teen Queen Amanda Morris with
Roger Swain, "The Mr. Kumquat" of celebrity. Roger
could be seen on such shows as the "Victory Garden"
on PBS for 15 years, and has enjoyed being the
celebrity ambassador of the Kumquat Festival each
year in Dade City.
